A Pilot Does a Low Fly-By with 200 Passengers On Board
BERLIN, GERMANY - OCTOBER 09: A passenger plane of Air Berlin flies over a residential district shortly before its arrival at Tegel airport on October 9, 2017 in Berlin, Germany. The bankrupt airliner, which is being held temporarily afloat thanks to an emergency loan from the German government, will cease operations by the end of October. Lufthansa and EasyJet have been awarded priority in taking over many of Air Berlin's planes and routes, though other companies may have a chance of attaining further leftovers, according to media reports. The carrier Air Berlin recently declared bankruptcy. And the airline’s final long-haul flight from Miami to Dusseldorf was on Monday. As it’s about to touch down at the airport, the pilot suddenly veers left to do a flyby of the terminal with 200 passengers onboard.
People on the ground freaked out because they think it’s about to crash. But it turns out it’s something called an “honorary flyover” . . . and the pilots got permission to do it from air traffic control. A video shot from a different angle shows that no one was in danger . . . but it’s still being investigated.
