Among the several projects on David Bowie‘s plate at the time of his death during January of 2016 was a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Director James Gunn has revealed that he approached Bowie about a small appearance in the film after a suggestion from Marvel. In a new Facebook Live Q&A, Gunn reveals that Bowie’s cameo “would have been as one of the Ravagers, along with Michelle Yeoh and Ving Rhames and Sylvester Stallone and Michael Rosenbaum. But, unfortunately, David Bowie passed away.”

Bowie did make a posthumous appearance earlier this year, reprising his character Phillip Jeffries via archival footage in Showtime’s reboot of Twin Peaks.
