As the plunge in oil prices and the troubles with the Chinese economy continue, global prices for steel and other metals have been falling over the last year. The steep drop has been negatively affecting scrap yards and recycling centers who are seeing their profits cut in half in many cases. The price for scrap steel has fallen four times recently and now stands at $35 per ton while aluminium cans have fallen nearly half in price and now are 40 cents per pound.
