With 2016 coming to a close, we look back at the rock moments that defined this crazy year.
5. Sabbath’s Farewell
2016 saw Black Sabbath’s final dates in North America. With their final shows ever taking place in their native Birmingham in February 2017, we’re sure it’ll be an emotional end to the greatest metal band of all time.
4. “Surprise” Releases
Between Avenged Sevenfold’s The Stage, NIN’s Not The Actual Events EP and Radiohead’s A Moon Shaped Pool, it seemed like new music in 2016 was all about surprises
3. Reunions Galore!
The Misfits performed together for the first time in over 30 years. Temple of the Dog went on their first tour EVER. Prophets of Rage brought together ¾’s of Rage Against The Machine. Here’s hoping for a full Rage reunion in 2017
2. “Not In This Lifetime…”
Let’s face it: The biggest reunion of them all deserves its own spot. Not only did Axl Rose and Slash bury the hatchet, but the entire “Not In This Lifetime…” tour went off without a hitch, AND the band went on stage on time every single night. Did you ever think Guns N’ Roses would ever be known for their punctuality? Neither did we!
1. A Year Of Loss
It wasn’t just the fact that we lost some of our favorite rockers in 2016; we lost true icons, and all of them were far too soon. Between David Bowie, Glenn Frey, Prince and the countless other entertainers and other notable figures, let’s hope 2017 will be less painful and shocking.
