Plant says no to Led Zep reunion rumors
Robert Plant has finally responded to all the rumors circulating about Led Zeppelin finally launching a full-blown reunion next year. Unfortunately, it’s not the response Led Zeppelin fans were hoping for. “Robert has no intention whatsoever of touring with anyone for at least the next two years,” a statement on Plant’s official website reads. “Contrary to a spate of recent reports, Robert Plant will not be touring or recording with Led Zeppelin. Anyone buying tickets online to any such event will be buying bogus tickets.” U.K.-based rumors spread on the internet last week that Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham were threatening to recruit another vocalist, which reportedly prompted Plant to rejoin the band for a tour next summer which would have included sets at Bonnaroo and Coachella. It was all fiction. “It’s both frustrating and ridiculous for this story to continue to rear its head when all the musicians that surround the story are keen to get on with their individual projects and move forward,” Plant said. “I wish Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham nothing but success with any future projects.” Plant is currently on tour with Alison Krauss to promote their album Raising Sand |

New GNR song to appear in upcoming movie
There’s yet another sign that this might finally be the year for Guns n’ Roses’ long-in-the-works Chinese Democracy. Rolling Stone can confirm that the album track “If The World” — a version of which leaked earlier this year — will appear in the upcoming Leonardo DiCaprio/Russell Crowe movie Body of Lies, in theaters October 10th. The track features the guitar work of Gn’R guitarist Robin Finck, as well as Buckethead, who left the band in 2004. The song plays during the closing credits of the movie, but it won’t appear on the soundtrack album. It will be the second official release of a Chinese Democracy track, as “Shackler’s Revenge” is included in the new Rock Band 2 game. A source has told Rolling Stone that Guns n’ Roses has reserved a November 25th date for the possible release of the album, which will be a Best Buy exclusive.

Angus Young rips iTunes
Telegraph.co.uk reports that Australian hard rockers AC/DC refuse to allow their work to be sold on iTunes because they argue that their albums are complete pieces of work that represent them at a certain time and place in their musical career and are not just a bunch of individual downloads to be cherry-picked by fans.
Because iTunes steadfastly refuses to "lock" any album (the vast majority of songs on the site can be downloaded as individual tracks), AC/DC don't just boycott the online store, but are now active anti-iTunes evangelists.
"We don't make singles, we make albums," guitarist Angus Young tells Telegraph.co.uk. "Way back in the Seventies, we drew these figures on the back of an envelope for our record company.
"We showed them how much they earned from us if we sold one million singles and how much they earned if we sold one million albums. The difference was staggering.
"That was to get them off our back because we only very grudgingly release singles. Our real reason is that we honestly believe the songs on any of our albums belong together.
"If we were on iTunes, we know a certain percentage of people would only download two or three songs from the album — and we don't think that represents us musically."
Young adds that despite pressure from industry figures to make AC/DC's songs available on iTunes, he doesn't believe that being part of the site was crucial to success.
"Since iTunes came into existence, we've actually increased our back catalogue sales without being on the site," he says. "We were sternly warned by our management team and our record label that the complete opposite would be the case." |
New Live DVD from Rush due in November
Rush will release Snakes & Arrows Live, a three-DVD set, on November 25 via Zoe Vision/Anthem Entertainment. The live set will also be available in BluRay and was shot over two nights last October at the Netherlands' Ahoy Rotterdam arena. Additional footage was filmed in Atlanta this past July, which is found on the third disc. The DVD set was filmed with 21 High-Definition cameras in 16 X 19 widescreen format.
Among the extra features on the DVD is the fan-favorite "What's That Smell?" vignette, which was screened as an intro to the band's second set on the Snakes & Arrows tour. Other extras include outtakes from the 2007 tour and alternate cuts of "Far Cry" and "The Way The Wind Blows."

Metallica and The Stooges 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees
Metallica and The Stooges are among the nominees for the 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class. For the first time in 12 years, the ceremony will be held April 4th in Cleveland, home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Other nominees include Jeff Beck, Run DMC, Chic, Wanda Jackson, War, Little Anthony and the Imperials and Bobby Womack.
First-time nominees Metallica have grabbed the honor in only their second year of eligibility, while fellow first timers the Stooges have been eligible for well over a decade.
