Listening on a Mac
or *nix?Both WRIF streams are
compatible with Apple computers. Mac
users can download Windows Media Player for OSX
here.
Many Mac and *nix users find it easier to
listen to the MP3 stream. |
WRIF is proud to be the only radio station in
the Motor City broadcasting live on the web continuously
since 1997. If you want
to listen, here's what you'll need:
As of
mid-May, 2008, we have begun a beta-test of an MP3
stream to accommodate listener with mobile devices. We will be
evaluating the MP3 stream over throughout the year to determine its viability.
What you need to listen to WRIF Live
1. An internet connection over 32k. This means a 56k
modem, cable, DSL, or most at-work connections should
work. The slower your connection, the longer the
webstream will take to buffer and the more buffering
you will experience while you are listening. Also, the
more applications you have open on your machine may
affect buffering and stream performance.
2. Player software -
Windows Media Player
9+,
Winamp,
Quicktime,
iTunes,
Foobar2000, or
VLC.
3. A sound card in your computer and speakers or
headphones. Most computers come with both.

sound too fast or too slow?

Having problems
connecting to the stream?
1. Are you at work? Some company networks are behind a
firewall that do not allow the webstream through. Check
with your friendly IT guy. Also, your Windows Media
Player must be set to use HTTP protocol with no other
ports selected. Not sure? Ask that IT guy. He'll be glad
to help.
5. On a Mac or *nix? You may want to download the .asx or
.pls file.
From there you should be able to open up Windows Media
Player by double clicking on the .asx file, and listen
to the WRIF online. Try right clicking on the "Windows
Media" or "Winamp PLayer" link and choosing "Download linked file as...".
7. Make sure
you have your streaming protocols and Streaming proxy
settings set on your Windows Media Player. They're
located on the Windows Media Player at Tools > Options>
Network. 8. WRIF.com streams in Advanced Streaming
Format, or ASF, so make sure the Windows Media Player is
set to be the default player for ASF files. That's
located on the Windows Media Player at Tools > Options>
File Types. Follow Greater Media Detroit tech updates
