UPDATE: Two Dead in Central Michigan University Shooting, Suspect At Large

UPDATE 03/02/2018 12:42 PM EST:  Per the Detroit Free Pressthe two deaths are suspect James Eric Davis, Jr.'s parents.  

Davis, Jr. is a sophomore at Central Michigan University.  He was taken to a local hospital Thursday night (March 1) by police after a "drug-related issue" and was released early this morning just before the shooting.  Davis, Jr.'s parents were at his dorm in Campbell Hall on CMU's campus to pick him up for spring break.

UPDATE 03/02/2018 12:27 PM EST: City of Mt. Pleasant released the photo below of person of interest James Eric Davis, Jr.  He is still at large and is still considered armed and dangerous.

The person of interest is James Eric Davis, Jr. He is a black male, approximately 19 years of age, 5'10" & 135 lbs. He was last see wearing mustard yellow jeans and a blue hoodie. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous. Do not approach the suspect. Call 911 immediately.

 

UPDATE 03/02/2018 10:58 AM EST: Central Michigan University has issued the following statement with suspect updates regarding Friday morning's shooting:

"Central Michigan University police confirm two individuals were fatally shot at Campbell Hall on campus this morning. The deceased are not students and police believe the situation started from a domestic situation.

There are no additional injuries.

Campus is on lockdown as the suspect is still at large.

The person of interest is James Eric Davis, Jr. He is a black male, approximately 19 years of age, 5'10" and 135 lbs.

Those planning to come to campus today to pick up students for spring break should stay off campus until further notice. Please go to the Comfort Inn, 2424 S. Mission St. University staff will be on site to support the families.

CMU police are working closely with local and state police."

UPDATE 10:23 a.m.: The suspect is a 19-year-old black male who is approx. 5 foot 9 inches tall. He is wearing mustard yellow jeans and a blue hoodie. He may have taken off the blue hoodie. He is considered armed & dangerous. If you see the suspect, do not approach him.

Two people have been shot on the campus of Central Michigan University Friday morning (March 2.)

Per CMU’s Twitter, the shooting took place at Campbell Hall and the suspect is still at large.  The entire campus has been advised to take shelter and is on lockdown.

Per ClickOnDetroit.com, the schools in the area of CMU as well as all city buildings are on lockdown.   CMU students also received a robo call alerting them of a shooting on campus.
