‘Dark Side of the Moon’s’ Billboard Reign & 5 Other Insane Historical Streaks

937 weeks.  That’s the amount of time that Pink Floyd’s iconic album Dark Side of the Moon has spent on the Billboard 200 album chart (so far) since its release 45 years ago today.

(Fun fact:  The next longest run is Bob Marley and the Wailers' Legend, which only has netted 510 weeks thus far.  How pathetic!)

Sarcasm aside, that type of staying power is incredibly rare, and it’s unlikely we’ll see anything else quite like it in music.  However, there are other mind-blowing streaks throughout history.  Here are five of them.

Longest Concert Tour By A Rock Band:  Thirty Seconds To Mars (309 show dates)

U2?  Guns N’ Roses?  The Rolling Stones?  Nope, the Jared Leto-fronted outfit tallied 309 shows during a single album cycle, and they have the endorsement of Guinness World Records to prove it.

30 Seconds to Mars Set Guinness World Record

30 Seconds to Mars, who has been on tour for two years and have performed over 300 live shows, talk about setting the Guiness World Record for most shows performed during a single album cycle. They released the album 'This Is War' in Dec. 2009. (Dec. 7)

Most Weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200:  Thriller (37 weeks)

Not a real shocker here considering the impact of this Michael Jackson album.  The only other album to spend 30+ weeks at number one is Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours.

Michael Jackson - Billie Jean (Official Video)

Listen to the NEW mashup: https://MichaelJackson.lnk.to/scream_pl!ytp "Billie Jean" was the first short film made for 'Thriller,' the biggest-selling album of all time. The short film for this No. 1 single, directed by Steve Barron, made history as the first video by a black artist to receive heavy rotation on MTV, and was later ranked by the network as one of the 100 greatest music videos of all time.

World’s Longest-Serving Living Monarch:  Queen Elizabeth II (66 years, 22 days)

Queen Elizabeth II’s reign began on February 6, 1952.  She will turn 92 in April...and her poor son Prince Charles is still waiting for his time in the sun.

In the program, she also watches film footage of her coronation in June 1953. Charlie D'Agata reports.

Longest-Running Game Show Host:  Alex Trebek (34 Seasons)

Trebek (with and without a mustache) has been the host of Jeopardy! since 1984, and his current contract has him on the books to host through the 2019-20 season.  In recent years, he’s gone viral for…well…like the video below indicates being savage.

Longest-Running Box Office Consecutive No.1 Streak:  Titanic (15 weeks)

The epic movie’s run at number one seemingly went on…and on…and on until it was finally dethroned by Lost in Space starring Gary Oldman, William Hurt and Matt LeBlanc.
