Royal Blood Talks Songwriting

Royal Blood continues the march towards its sophomore album with the release of a new single and video, "Hook, Line and Sinker."

The group actually debuted the grungy, hard-hitting song during the 2015 Reading Festival in the U.K., while the video, directed by Ben Lowe, is a performance clip using a variety of effects including a fisheye lens and blurry perspectives. A concert clip is appropriate because singer-bassist Mike Kerry tells us that the new "How Did We Get So Dark?" was impacted heavily by Royal Blood's time on the road promoting its debut album.

"I think that when we wrote our (first) album we didn’t' have touring in mind at all. What you've got to remember is the first half of our record was made completely on our own and in private and just for friends, really...So having now been on this adventure it's taken us on, I think that, yeah, it seems that the more naive we were about songwriting and record-making we are, the better, really. That was really just what we thought was fun and cool to do. We didn't write it for any purpose other than to play live. We certainly didn't think we could tour it for two years."

"Hook, Line and Sinker" follows "Lights Out," the first video from "How Did We Get So Dark?," which comes out June 2 -- the same day the duo begins a seven-date U.S. tour in Boston.
