Pearl Jam will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this Friday (April 7), but it won’t be by Neil Young as previously announced.
In a statement from the Rock Hall, Young had to back out “due to illness.” (The type of illness wasn’t specified.)
Young’s backup? David Letterman!
As far as “Plan B’s” go, this might be one of the best ever.
Pearl Jam performed on The Late Show a number of times over the course of Letterman’s nearly 22 years as host, and Eddie Vedder appeared as a musical guest during Letterman’s final week as host of The Late Show.

Frankly, if there isn’t a Pearl Jam Top 10 list involved in Letterman’s speech, we’ll be a little bummed about the missed opportunity.
