Today (February 11) is Mike Shinoda’s birthday, and without a doubt, Linkin Park is one of rock’s most prolific when it comes to charity work. In honor of his birthday, we look at Linkin Park and other notable charity efforts in the rock world.
Linkin Park – Music For Relief
Linkin Park founded Music For Relief in 2005 to help provide assistance to areas hit by natural disasters and raises money through benefit shows, auctions and other efforts. Here’s a recent video about MFR’s efforts to assist victims of the Louisiana floods.
In August 2016, Southern Louisiana received nearly 7 trillion gallons of rainwater in less than a week. Over 400,000 people have been affected and more than 60,000 homes were lost. The storm has been called the worst disaster in the United States since Superstorm Sandy.
Jonathan Davis – Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
Ever since his son, Zeppelin, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, Davis has been an advocate for JDRF. Check out Davis talking about the organization with WRIF’s Jade Springart!
Bono – (RED)
The U2 frontman and Bobby Shriver founded (RED) to help fight against the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa. It has since raised $465 million through various brand partnerships and auctions, like the one Bono and The Edge talk about in the video below.
