A lot of people have been asking how my experience with Dr. Yaldo and lasik eye surgery went so here's my story!
I've worn glasses for about ten years to see long distances, but I was never really a fan of wearing them. I mostly wore them while driving and going to the movies, but that was about it. They just weren't my style so when I was approached about getting lasik eye surgery, I was pretty intrigued.
I went to the initial consultation to see if I qualified for the surgery and the entire staff at the Yaldo Eye Center was extremely helpful and professional. A lot of you have expressed that the fear of getting eye surgery is what's holding you off from doing it and I'll be honest, I had a lot of time to think about it between the consultation & surgery and there were a lot of different thoughts running through my head. Knowing that Dr. Yaldo is the lasik leader in Michigan and that he's performed over 30,000 procedures helped put me at ease.
I headed to the Yaldo Eye Center at 7 in the morning the day of surgery and while we were driving I really took note at how difficult it was to see street signs in the dark without my glasses. There were 2 other ladies ahead of me that morning and while they prepped us, the nurse was very helpful and answered any questions we had. By 8:00am I was in the chair and it was time to fire up the lasers.
Dr. Yaldo came into the room and explained what the process would be and that the whole procedure would only take about 15 minutes. He performed what's called CATZ which is the most advanced procedure and actually designed to give you better than 20/20 vision. I laid back in the chair and tried to stay as calm as possible. They started by putting numbing drops in my eyes and used a spring device to hold them open. (They do this one at a time.) The next part went pretty quickly and was completely pain free. Dr. Yaldo talked me through the entire process (reminding me to breathe when I started holding my breath) and before I knew it, everything was done. Opening my eyes right after the procedure was tough, but I took a quick glance at a poster on the wall across the room and could immediately tell my vision was better. They tell you to go home and keep your eyes closed for about 5 hours, so basically try to take a nap. When I woke up at 2pm, I slowly opened my eyes to look at the TV and immediately noticed I could read everything. You know the disclaimers at the bottom of the screen for medical ads? I could read them perfectly. Before I didn't even notice they were there because they were so blurry. The healing process was completely pain free and at my post-op follow up the next day, my eyes were already at 20/15.
2 weeks later and everything is going great! I can see everything clearly and I'm noticing things that I never knew existed. For example, there's a wall clock in my office that has tiny dashes and numbers on it to indicate the seconds. Up until I had lasik, I didn't realize they were there. I can see the colors in the carpet all the way down the hallway, and I can see all the little branches on the trees outside my window. I went to a concert the week after surgery and I couldn't believe how well I could see the stage from all the way back in the theater. Lasik has certainly changed how I see the world, literally.
